Medical Director - Adult Behavioral Health

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM

PURPOSE: Oversee licensed adult behavioral health care clinical services provided at The Center for Health Care Services (CHCS) including direct patient care.   Develop psychiatric service strategies and collaborate with Clinic Administrators and Nurse Supervisors to ensure safe and efficient workflow. The Medical Director will monitor performance and documentation for quality and timeliness, and apply continuous quality improvement processes to support patent experience and outcomes. 

 

Statement of Duties 

  1. Provide professional behavioral health care to individuals by conducting psychiatric examinations, prescribing and monitoring of psychotropic medications, and other consumer/patient related services, and completing associated documentation. 
  2. Supervise, at a minimum, three Advanced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and coordinate the assignments of supervisory duties to physicians within their units. Obtain feedback from APRN’s to ensure adequacy of supervision.  
  3. Perform quarterly chart reviews for providers in their units using our approved checklist and participate in the Peer Review Committee and coordinate improvement plan efforts with the Chief Medical Officer. 
  4. Monitor documentation to ensure 23-hour completion and the use of collaborative documentation. 
  5. Assist providers with coaching, performance Improvement, dictation software or corrective action processes. 
  6. Monitor workflow and productivity and assist providers with goal attainment. 
  7. Perform incident reporting, incident report monitoring and assist with safety plans. 
  8. Attend Lead MD meeting with the CMO and other MDs to report and act as a collaborative workgroup for quality improvement. 
  9. Coordinate with the Nurse Supervisors to oversee laboratory collection, lab result monitoring, EKGs, long acting medication injections and phone call and patient triage. 
  10. Participate in multi-disciplinary quality assurance program to evaluate and ensure staff proficiency, quality of patient care, error reporting, environmental safety, and comprehensive documentation  
  11. Aid in the Utilization Management function as needed by collecting, reviewing, and authorizing Medicaid and non-Medicaid covered emergency Mental Health hospitalization for consumers throughout The Center's system.  
  12. Maintain pharmaceutical oversight of medication samples for specified units participating in the program through assigned unit level staff, maintaining accurate account of stock medications, controlled substances, and consumer medications.  
  13. Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating staff education, and provide supervision of clinical learning.  
  14. Ensure adequate staffing and coordinate filling vacancies with the Clinic Administrator and Chief Medical Officer.  
  15. Other duties as assigned. 

   

REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE (CREDENTIALS), EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS 

Minimum requirements 

  1. Current physician license to practice medicine in the State of Texas.         
  2. Graduation from an accredited medical school. 
  3. Successful completion of a residency approved by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent body.
  4. Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology. 
  5. Current Texas Physician's permit and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency Substance Registration Certificate (DEA).  
  6. Double Board Certification, or Board certification with 5 years’ post-residency experience. 
  7. 2 years in a clinical supervisory experience (preferred). 
  8. Self-motivated, articulate and able to multi-task.  
  9. Familiarity in compliance of mental health policies and standards and be able to train/educate staff on updated policies and guidelines (preferred).   
  10. Must apply to be credentialed with all Center contracted payers.  
  11. Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies.  
  12. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Company’s auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business.  
  13. Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.  
  14. Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in various care. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to occasionally transfer a consumer.

Compensation Package  

Salary Range: $250,000.00 – $280,000.00 Per Year
