Certified Peer Specialist - Integrated Services Program

Location: San Antonio, TX
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM

PURPOSE 

The Certified Peer Specialist uses their lived experience in mental health recovery to assist other adults in their mental health recovery. As a member of the Integrated Care Team, the Certified Peer Specialist will mentor and provide recovery based coaching to assist the clients in pursuing his/her individual health and wellness goals.

 TASKS 

  1.  Under supervision and as part of a support team, provide peer-to-peer services to consumers, assisting them to achieve their recovery goals. 
  2. Teaches others about managing their mental and physical health.
  3. Provides self-help recovery services (WRAP, Pathways to Recovery) and other peer wellness services.
  4. Assist consumers with linking to appropriate internal and external services (housing /employment /independent living, etc.), and navigating systems essential to recovery and growth. 
  5. Establish and develop appropriate consumer relationships of trust, hope and empowerment by sharing own lived experiences to facilitate achievement of consumers’ recovery goals. 
  6. Ensure clinical documentation is submitted in accordance with CHCS’s standards and meets all designated requirements 
  7. Other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  1.  High School Diploma or GED
  2. CPS (Certified Peer Specialist) certification 
  3. Self-identified as having direct personal experience living with mental illness and recovery, with a primary diagnosis of mental illness or dual diagnosis.
  4. At least one (1) year of experience working on recovery and able to manage own wellness 
  5. Agree to disclose own mental illness diagnosis for the purpose of educating, role modeling and providing hope to others about the reality of recovery.
  6. Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies.
  7. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Company’s auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business 
  8. Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
  9. Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in various care. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to occasionally transfer a consumer.

 PREFERRED 

        1. Experience working in an organization providing mental health services.

        2. Strong professional verbal and written skills.

        3. Bilingual (English / Spanish)
