Occupational Health Nurse

Department: 8021 - Human Resources
Location: San Antonio, TX
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM


Responsible for the development and administration of efficient and professional operations of occupational health services in accordance with company policies, practices, procedures, and applicable regulations to achieve the desired goals and objectives. Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of employees and patients.


  1. Oversee and manage the administrative and operational activities of occupational health services.

a)     Assure compliance with regulatory requirements related to clinical operations

b)    Responsible for securing and developing all records, equipment, and programs related to occupational health services – TB screening compliance.

c)     Collaborate with outside resources for program development, such as healthcare providers, third-party administrators, legal advisors, medical director, regulatory agencies, etc.

d)    Responsible for assuring the appropriate access and utilization of healthcare services.

  1. Guide and direct all referrals to outside health care providers and services provide or manage the required physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirement; such as OSHA, Department of Transportation, CDC, etc.
  2. Administers the company’s Drug-Free Workplace Program.
  3. Maintains death review procedures to assure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  4. Provides hands on training within facilities
  5. Manage all cases to facilitate productivity, assuring appropriate care and return to work
  6. Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety, Operations, Medical Services, Nursing Department, and Human Resources to develop operations, programs, and services by providing content expertise.
  1. Contribute in the design of controls for injury prevention and health surveillance related to actual and potential hazards in the work environment.
  2. Identify primary secondary and tertiary prevention and health promotion strategies to optimize health of the population.
  3. Other duties as assigned.



  1. Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing and current Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  2. Understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to occupational and environment health and safety.
  3. Must be able to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals. 
  4. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing 
  5. Must be knowledgeable of nursing practices and ethics and HIPAA regulations. 
  6. Must be willing to travel to all facilities to provide on-site training, annual testing and to address safety issues.  
  7. Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies
  8. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Company’s auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business 
  9. Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
  10. Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in various care. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to occasionally transfer a consumer.



  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. Certification in occupational health nursing or case management
