Medical Office Specialist - Reimbursement

Department: 1144 - Paul Elizondo Primary Care
Location: San Antonio, TX
Work Schedule: Monday through- Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM


The Medical Office Specialist is responsible for clinic front office support services ensuring authorizations are obtained, financial information and related benefits, reimbursement and demographic information is up to date for consumers served. Focus on reviewing of client medical charts/records and reports. caseload.


1. Perform focused reviews of charts to determine financial eligibility and outpatient benefits.

2. Run all required reports such as TMHP, Emedeon and IDX.

3. Ensure prior authorization of services is obtained and consumers' financial information is updated/entered into EMR.Collect payments from consumers.

4. Perform SSI/SSDI financial benefits screening and referral.

5. Create, assemble, retrieve, refile and maintain client charts.

6. Process release of information requests in accordance with HIPAA and Center guidelines.

7. Performs focused reviews of charts, ensuring assigned charts are uniform, orderly, complete, and accessible to authorized individuals.

8. Produce and monitor reimbursement, scheduling and service reports (e.g suspense, EM reconciliation, duplicate, NGM Reports).

9. Other duties as assigned


1. High School Diploma or GED
2. Two to three (2-3) years’ of medical office clerical experience to include demonstrated customer service to include insurance verification and co-pay collection., electronic medical records and billing
3. Two (2) years’ experience with insurance verification and co-pay collection
4. Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications and system databases, to include generating system reports and entering and retrieving data in EMR systems
5. Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies
6. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Company’s auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business
7. Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
8. Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in various care. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to occasionally transfer a consumer.
