Certified Medical Assistant

Department: 1143 - 1115 ABH High Utilizer Expansion
Location: San Antonio, TX
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM

PURPOSE 

The Certified Medical Assistant will provide routine medical care for consumers within their scope of practice, and complete associated documentation for the consumer and program.


TASKS

  1. Provides routine vitals on consumers prior to physician appointment 
  2. Completes medical history on all consumers prior to physician appointment 
  3. Perform first aid and monitor self-administration of medication
  4. Oversees provision of a safe, clean, and orderly physical environment for consumers, ensuring Center/Medical standards are met for issues related to Infection Control 
  5. Conduct medication inventory
  6. Fax medication prescriptions to pharmacies as requested by nursing or physician staff, handles telephone calls for prescription refills, and involves the physician and nurse as needed 
  7. Performs Medicaid Administrating Claiming (MAC) Time study on a quarterlly basis, using codes as applicable to ensure the access of eligible consumers to Medicaid services 
  8. Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  1. High School Diploma or GED 
  2. Completed program of formal training as a Medical Assistant    
  3. Medical Assistan Certification to practice in the State of Texas 
  4. Must possess a Medical Assistant Certification i.e. CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA
  5. Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications and system databases  
  6. Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies
  7. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Company’s auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business 
  8. Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
  9. Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in various care. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to occasionally transfer a consumer.

PREFERRED 

  1. Bilingual (English / Spanish)
  2. One (1) to two (2) years’ experience as a Medical Assistant which includes psychiatric or Behavioral Health
