Medical Director - Crisis Care

The Medical Director / Restoration Center Services maintains oversight of all licensed clinical services provided throughout The Restoration Acute Care Services facility and is responsible for effective and efficient leadership of provider performance. This position is accountable to the Vice President of the Restoration Center and Vice President of Medical Services for developing and implementing CHCS medical services strategies and, in conjunction with appropriate executive leadership, establishing and implementing strategies and performance standards, monitoring and applying continuous improvement processes to achieve expected high quality medical outcomes while appropriately managing compliance and risk. Position is also responsible for conducting psychiatric examinations, prescribing and monitoring of psychotropic medications, and other consumer/patient related services, and completing associated documentation.  


  1. Provides system-wide medical services planning, effective direction to and leadership of all medical providers and nursing resources
  2. Development of medical services strategy and goals
  3. Ensures medical practice risk is effectively managed.
  4. Review all crisis services and must approve all policies, procedures and protocols used in crisis services in accordance with Item V DHSH Contract.
  5. Must be responsible for admission, diagnosis, medication management and client care, approve all medical policies, procedures, guidelines, tools and the medical content of all forms for Residential Detox services in accordance with 448 Chapter 140, Sub Ch 1 #7.
  6. Provides appropriate medical guidance to nursing services; designs and oversees telehealth strategy and implementation for the Restoration Center to include the 1115 Waiver Project Crisis Transition Services.      
  7. Services provided will include attending pre-scheduled required meetings; at least eight hours of on-site service a week, telephone consultation, and correspondence through email.                
  8. Provides direct patient care on a scheduled basis and as a back-up as needed (can be provided on the on-call rotation).
  9. Conducts psychiatric examinations and reviews collateral information of assigned patients in accordance with applicable guidelines.
  10. Prescribes psychotropic medications in accordance with the Centerís Prescribing Practices, Policies and Procedures to treat psychiatric illness
  11. Order labs in accordance with recommended guidelines.      
  12. Completes physicianís certificates or other documentation for involuntary treatment in accordance with applicable laws and Mental Health Code.
  13. Evaluates urgent psychiatric patients in a competent and timely manner.
  14. Complies with commitment laws 100% of the time.
  15. Complies with Centerís EMR requirements as established and modified from time to time.
  16. Performs Medicaid Administration Claiming (MAC) Time Study on a quarterly basis and participates in the Centerís cost containment efforts.
  17. Responds to patients and families when requested or needed.
  18. Other duties as assigned


  1. Board Certified in Psychiatry with current Texas Physicianís permit, DPS and DEA certification
  2. A minimum of five (5) yearsí of progressive clinical practice in a mental health care system; a minimum of two years of which must be in a leadership role over medical operations, provider performance and financial performance accountability
  3. Demonstrated leadership skill and creativity in developing and delivering visionary behavioral and integrated health care programs to challenging populations with effective outcomes
  4. High degree of technology proficiency with EMR/EHR, e-prescribing, telehealth and other electronic medical systems, standard Microsoft Office applications and system databases
  5. Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies
  6. Must maintain a valid driverís license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Companyís auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business 
  7. Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance
  8. Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in various care. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to occasionally transfer a consumer


  1. Board Eligible or Certified in Family or Internal Medicine, in addition to board certification in Psychiatry
  2. Experience in Community Mental Health systems and/or primary care integration with behavioral health care experience
  3. Bilingual (English/Spanish)
