Family Nurse Practitioner/Physicianís Assistant (Part-time)

Department: 3234 - Public Safety Unit
Location: San Antonio, TX
Work Schedule: Part time

PURPOSE 

The Family Nurse Practitioner/Physicianís Assistant is responsible for conducting psychiatric examinations, prescribing and monitoring of psychotropic medications, and other consumer/patient related services, and completing associated documentation.


TASKS

  1. Conducts medical examinations and reviews collateral information of assigned patients in accordance with TDSHS along with other applicable guidelines and Best Practices
  2. Prescribes medications using Center's formulary/Standing Orders for Protocols for Detoxification and Public Safety Unit       through an Electronic Prescribing System (EPS)/CMBHS as appropriate, to treat substance abuse disorders/physical/psychiatric illness as needed; orders labs in accordance with Best Practice guidelines
  3. Completes physician's certificates or other documentation for involuntary treatment in accordance with applicable laws and the Mental Health Code if applicable
  4. Conducts regular reviews (and revisions as needed) of treatment plans and provides the DSM IV-TR, 5 Axis diagnosis on all assigned patients as required by Program and regulatory protocols, which may include a review of DG1A data/form
  5. Evaluates urgent psychiatric/medical patients in a competent and timely manner.
  6. Complies with commitment laws 100% of the time as appropriate
  7. Complies with Center's EMR requirements as established and modified from time to time
  8. Performs Medicaid Administration Claiming (MAC) Time Study on a quarterly basis as applicable, and participates in the Center's cost containment efforts
  9. Is responsive to patients and families when requested or needed
  10. Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  1. Current Texas Physician Assistant OR RN license, Advanced Practice license from the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners, Texas Department of Public Safety Controlled Substance Registration Certificate (DPS), and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency Substance Registration Certificate (DEA)
  2. Completion of an accredited relevant Residency Program if applicable (e.g. Psychiatric Residency if for MH)
  3. Must apply to be credentialed with all Center contracted payors
  4. Must have working knowledge of the principles of the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized care and treatment
  5. Must have working knowledge of State and Federal laws and professional standards related to psychiatric treatment
  6. Must have ability to evaluate patients, set up and carry out an effective course of treatment utilizing the expertise of other clinical personnel with a minimum of direction
  7. Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies
  8. Must be proficient with standard Microsoft Office applications and EMR systems
  9. Must maintain a valid driverís license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Companyís auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business 
  10. Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
  11. FOR ALL NURSING AND DIRECT CARE POSITIONS ONLY: Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in various care. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to occasionally transfer a consumer.
