Support Services Specialist III

Department: 2002 - CBH Outpatient Services
Location: San Antonio, TX
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM


The Support Services Specialist III is responsible for receiving and transmitting phone calls, greeting visitors, checking in consumers and responding to general inquiries. The Support Services Specialist will ensure that authorizations are obtained and demographic information is up to date for consumers served.


  1. Ensure all prior authorization for services is obtained prior to the delivery of services 
  2. Operates telephone/switchboard service and provides requested information and refers calls to the appropriate person. As required, takes and relays messages and documents requests for prescription refills on Nurse’s Log.
  3. Refers families to SSI/SSDI financial benefits screening office and also refers consumers who appear to be eligible for CHIP benefits to appropriate staff 
  4. Produce and monitor reimbursement, scheduling and service reports 
  5. Confirm consumer appointments and determine financial eligibility; run medifax and distribute incoming/outgoing correspondence 
  6. Maintain and verify current demographics and insurance information, process documents for scanning and schedule consumer appointments 
  7. Other duties as assigned


  1. High School Diploma or GED 
  2. Two to three (2 -3) years’ of customer service experience 
  3. Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications and system databases 
  4. Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies
  5. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Company’s auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business 
  6. Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
  7. Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in various care. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to occasionally transfer a consumer.
