Safety Risk Specialist

Department: 8023 – COO Services
Location: San Antonio, TX
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM

PURPOSE 

Implements, manages and monitors safety risk programs, policies, and procedures that meet Rules, Regulations, Fire Codes and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions in order to reduce accidents/injuries. Ensures the organization complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures. Collects data and reports on all safety and accident events. Will have additional responsibility for fire prevention, hazardous condition mitigation for all work environments. Conduct inspections, observations and enforce adherence to rules, regulations, codes governing the health and safety of CHCS workforce. The Specialist is primarily responsible for ensuring that the Center becomes a best in class Safety Organization as well as assisting management on long term safety risk goals, opportunity areas, and performing several other tasks as required.


TASKS

  1. Analyzing various safety and health data staying updated on various Safety and Health norms; conducting audits in the area of environmental health and safety;
  2. Guiding and training workers and technicians in the use of equipment, promoting environmental health and safety programs through-out the organization;
  3. Assisting the management on long term safety risk issues; and performing several other tasks as required.
  4. Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  5. Investigate accidents to identify root causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.  
  6. Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.  
  7. Develop or maintain safety programs, such as standard operating procedures, noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, or asbestos management plans. 
  8. Actively communicating with all levels of the organization to create a culture of safety. 
  9. Developing Safety Risk dashboards, data collection methods, near miss reporting procedures and all safety risk metric tracking. 
  10. Other duties as assigned

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or a Technical related field or extensive safety related experience in Technical environments, Safety/Health Risk Management, Operations, Maintenance, and/or Construction with a High School Diploma or GED  
  2. Working knowledge of Safety rules, regulations and laws  
  3. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally at all levels of the organization and presenting in public and organizational forums 
  4. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook  
  5. Experience with investigation techniques, Root Cause Analysis, methods and theories  
  6. Working knowledge of Continuous Process Improvement
  7. Ability to to maintain strict confidentiality with respect to “need to know” information
  8. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Company’s auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business 
  9. Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.

 PREFERRED 

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited University
  2. Experience developing Standard Operating Procedures, Programs, and Protocols 
  3. Familiarity with Behavioral Based Safety programs  
  4. Leadership experience managing safety efforts in an organization  
  5. Technical expertise with Crafts, Construction, Maintenance, Operations, Facilities, and/or Infrastructures 
  6. CISSP, OSHA 10, OSHA 30, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Safety Manager, Certified Utility Safety Professional, Certified Utility Safety Administrator,  
  7. Construction, Maintenance and Project Management experience
